The only portion of the population reaping real benefits will be the divorce lawyers. You think traditional marriage divorces are nasty and contentious. Wait till you see same sex marriage divorces. There are so many ambiguities in traditional marriage laws as they apply to same sex marriages, that nasty and contentious will be the most pleasant of divorces. Virtually any marriage law is up for appeal when it applies to same sex marriages. Traditional definitions on which traditional marriage is defined are ambiguous when you try and apply them to same sex. Gay community should have defined their own non-traditional marriages with their own laws and rules. Then they could control the legal issues as they want. Right now if the Gay Community wants to change anything in marriage then it has to be approved by traditional marriage supporters. There are a lot of things the Gay community will want to change and there will be strong resistance to it. Gays said they wanted to be included in traditional marriage. Well you are now included in traditional marriage. Traditional marriage supporters will oppose any major changes for the same sex situation because the Gay community was told to leave traditional marriage alone and create your own same sex long term relationship with it's own laws, rules, policies, and restrictions. Just because you are included in traditional marriage, doesn't mean you will be allowed to change traditional marriage laws for specificly same sex issues. If you need to change traditional marriage laws, then the Gay community is NOT a good fit for current traditional marriage, and should have created their own independent "gay marriage".
Remember the constant claim of the Gay Community was that same sex marriages are no different than 1 man 1 woman marriages. That implies all the rules of traditional marriage are applicable to same sex marriage and no changes in the laws of marriage is required. I know same sex and traditional marriages are not the same.
