The suggestion has been made in Washington by a report of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that citizens should be taxed on the number of miles they drive. Some Democrats are showing support for this tax and are trying to gain more support. These Democrats never met a tax they didn't like. So let me get this straight, a strong work ethic that has a lot of commuting miles to travel everyday, will pay more in taxes than someone who is lucky enough to work close to home? The long distance commuter is already allocating more time for commuting, and is paying more taxes because he purchases more gas. He is also paying more costs for vehicle maintenance, and the need to purchase a new vehicle sooner, which he also pays taxes on. Why on Earth would CBO suggest this? Because they don't live in the real world!
